The Montessori education system has been successfully implemented worldwide for over 100 years. Since 2020, First Montessori Academy has guided children ages 18 month to 12 years of age. First Montessori Academy students have enjoyed this systematic method of education based upon careful research. A Montessori classroom is an environment filled with appropriate physical concrete materials that invite learning through exploration and interaction. First Montessori Academy’s Head of School, Katherine Lindaman has been teaching Montessori for over 30+ years. After selling her schools in Cumming, Georgia and after seven years of retirement Mrs. Lindaman returned to her love of teaching and founded First Montessori in downtown Sarasota during the height of the COVID-19 epidemic. “My husband and I woke up one morning, and we were thinking we had to do something for society. We didn’t know what God was going to send our way, but I got a phone call from the church the next day.” The school in Sarasota has been operating since September 2020 has taught children 18 months- 14 years of age. The school is an authentic Montessori faith-based program teaching traditional values through a classical education model that integrates computer technology, along with the other core curriculum subjects. Even though the school teaches faith-based lessons they accept all denominations. As founder, I believe it is important for children to have a well-rounded education.
Our Head of School, Katherine Lindaman previously owned The Montessori Academy at Sharon Springs and Montessori at Vickery in Cumming, GA with enrollment of over 370 students, serving children 18 months – 14 years of age. She spearheaded the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) accreditation and American Montessori Society (AMS) accreditation. During the Sharon Springs accreditation the AMS review team stated that the Montessori Academy teachers are exemplars of what excellent Montessori teachers do for children. “As the first fully accredited SACS and AMS Montessori school in North Georgia, it was a badge of honor to our school community”, explained Mrs. Lindaman. “We are excited to offer the same unsurpassed quality to the families at First Montessori in Sarasota and plans are in the works to become a fully accredited school through Florida Coalition of Christian Private School Accreditation (FCCPSA) and COGNIA. First Montessori is a member of the American Montessori Society (AMS).
